The Lacunary

luh-KYOO-nuh-ree noun

A dictionary of made-up words for real things that did not have one.

From lacuna, a gap. Linguists call a concept that a language has no word for a lexical gap.

What earns an entry

The thing is real
A reader recognizes it the moment it is described, even if they have never tried to describe it themselves.
It had no word
If English already names it well, it does not need an entry. Slang for something that already has a name does not count.
The term is invented, and it fits
A good entry sounds like it was always the word. The origin note should make the reader see why.

Pyrenees Syndrome is the founding entry. Entries marked Sample are placeholders written to show the format, and are there to be replaced.
